El hecho se produjo dentro de un bus escolar que transportaba a 13 alumnos de entre 12 y 17 a\u00f1os de edad, pertenecientes a la Unidad Educativa Lagunillas. El veh\u00edculo era indocumentado y hab\u00eda sido modificado ilegalmente para funcionar con Gas Licuado de Petr\u00f3leo (GLP), debido a que no pod\u00eda cargar combustible convencional por no contar con el sistema B-SISA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>El bus ten\u00eda garrafas y hornallas instaladas artesanalmente para calentar el gas y potenciar el motor. Una aparente fuga en una de las garrafas habr\u00eda provocado el incendio que termin\u00f3 con la vida de cinco j\u00f3venes y dej\u00f3 a otros ocho con heridas de diversa gravedad. El conductor del veh\u00edculo, Rom\u00e1n Ignacio Apaza, fue aprehendido y se solicit\u00f3 su detenci\u00f3n preventiva.
