Entre 2010 y 2019, m\u00e1s de la mitad de los pa\u00edses de Am\u00e9rica Latina y el Caribe registraron un aumento de sus ya altas tasas de muertes por accidentes de tr\u00e1nsito. Seg\u00fan datos de la OMS, en promedio la regi\u00f3n pas\u00f3 en ese per\u00edodo de 15,68 a 17,66 fallecidos por cada cien mil habitantes, siendo superada solo por \u00c1frica. En comparaci\u00f3n, la regi\u00f3n de Europa y Asia Central baj\u00f3 de 10,49 a 7,49 en ese lapso, y solo registr\u00f3 alzas en tres pa\u00edses.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>En n\u00fameros absolutos, seg\u00fan la OMS, en la regi\u00f3n de las Am\u00e9ricas murieron 144.090 personas en 2021 por esta causa, lo que corresponde al 12 por ciento del total mundial. Ricardo P\u00e9rez-N\u00fa\u00f1ez\u200b, asesor regional en seguridad vial y prevenci\u00f3n de lesiones involuntarias de la OPS, dice a DW que \u00ablos siniestros de tr\u00e1nsito, y los da\u00f1os de salud que generan constituyen un problema social y de salud p\u00fablica que tiene causas m\u00faltiples\u00bb.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00abVan desde infraestructura vial que no ofrece un nivel de seguridad adecuado en particular para los usuarios vulnerables, veh\u00edculos inseguros o que carecen de dispositivos de seguridad m\u00ednimos recomendables, hasta leyes y normas que no propician conductas seguras en la v\u00eda p\u00fablica.
